BMW X4

The all-new BMW X4 is larger and lighter than before

BMW has revealed the first images of the second-gen X4.

THIS IS THE all-new second generation X4, the mid-size Sports Activity Coupé from BMW, which is due to make its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

Since hitting the market in 2014, the BMW X4 has sold over 200,000 units across the globe.

However, compared to the previous model, the all-new BMW X4 is 81mm longer and 37mm wider and has 54mm added to the wheelbase. It is also lower by 3mm and has shed 50kg.

It retains BMW’s trademark kidney grille and twin headlight units, while the new horizontal LED fog lights integrated into the outer air intakes form a new interpretation of the familiar X model face. All models feature Adaptive LED headlights as standard.

Around the back are twin exhaust tailpipes and slim, L-shaped LED lights, which are positioned at the extreme edges of the rear.

Inside, there are three full-size back seats with an additional 27mm of legroom over the previous model. The boot has a capacity of 525 litres and the load space can be expanded to a maximum of 1,430 litres by folding down the sections of the rear backrest, with its standard 40:20:40 split.

The cabin also features the latest version of the iDrive operating system and the Control Display now takes the form of a freestanding monitor with a 6.5-inch screen, whilst the Professional Navigation System high-resolution touchscreen measures 10.25 inches.

The X4 comes as standard with Cruise Control with braking function as well as Collision and Pedestrian Warning with City Collision Mitigation. There is an optional semi-autonomous Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function that is capable of braking and setting off again automatically.

The optional Driving Assistant Plus safety package features the Lane Keeping Assistant with active side collision protection, Crossing Traffic Warning and Crossroads Warning systems and the Steering and Lane Control assistant, which is operational at speeds between zero to 210km/h,

The Parking Assistant Plus system helps drivers select and manoeuvre into parallel and perpendicular parking spaces.

The new X4 will be launched with a choice of two diesel engines – xDrive20d and M40d.

There will also be a petrol-powered six-cylinder in-line engine M40i as well as another straight-six diesel unit – xDrive30d. The xDrive20d model is paired with an eight-speed Steptronic gearbox and all-wheel drive transmission.

The BMW M Performance models and the BMW X4 xDrive30d are equipped with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport gearbox and all-wheel drive transmission.

The new BMW X4 is available to order now with prices starting from €67,190.
