The body of the Filipino woman was found when the fire brigade pumped water out of the basement in Crumlin this morning.

THE BODY OF a woman has been discovered in a Dublin basement flooded during last night’s heavy rain.

Emergency services were called to the house on Parnell Road in Crumlin at around 11pm last night by concerned neighbours. A preliminary search was carried out by members of the garda water unit at 1am, but nothing was found.

However, when the basement was pumped out by Dublin Fire Brigade later this morning, a body was found inside.

Earlier one man at the scene, Ishtar Ahmed, had broken through a window in an an attempt to rescue the woman, cutting his hand and arm in the process.

The woman is believed to be a Filipino national and the Filipino Embassy is assisting her family. Local Labour TD Eric Byrne said that her death was all the more tragic for the efforts her neighbours had made to try to save her.
