THE BODY OF a woman has been recovered from the River Lee in Cork City after she fell into the river shortly before 9pm last night.

The Valentia Coast Guard’s Office confirmed this morning that the body was recovered at Parliament Bridge just before midnight last night.

The coast guard was called to assist gardaí and Cork City Fire Brigade after the woman fell into the river at Sullivan’s Quay.

The Irish Examiner reported that members of the public had tried to throw a buoyancy to aid her as she was carried under Parliament Bridge but then lost sight of her.

Members of the Crosshaven coast guard and lifeboat responded and assisted in the search operation.
