The search began last night following reports that the man had fallen into a river.

THE BODY OF a man has been recovered in Carlow following an overnight search for a 19-year-old who was reported to have fallen into a river last night.

Gardaí confirmed that a body was taken from the River Barrow near the Milford Bridge at around 10.30am today.

The Garda Sub-Aqua Unit, the Coastguard, and local search and rescue teams had been involved in the search.

Carlow GAA paid tribute to the man who had played hurling for the county’s under-21 team.

In a statement, it described the man as a “warrior on the pitch, a rock in defence and gave 100 per cent on the pitch every time”.

“A kind soul well liked throughout Carlow especially in hurling, he was a great hurler and footballer, a gentleman and an even greater friend and we are heartbroken”.
