The explosive device was found at a private residence in the Woodlands Grove area of Shankill.

Updated 11.20pm

A HOMEMADE BOMB was made safe by defence forces experts in Shankill in Dublin this evening.

The viable improvised explosive device was found at a home in the Woodlands Grove area of Shankill before gardaí alerted the Defence Forces.

The Defence Forces bomb disposal team then arrived at the scene at about 6.45pm.

A cordon and road closures were put in place for public safety, while a number of nearby houses were evacuated.

The device was made safe at the scene without the need for a controlled explosion and was then brought to a safe military location for further examination.

The  Defence Forces say all component parts and evidence will then be the handed over to gardaí to assist them with their investigations.
