Bomb squad defuses three viable bombs found in suburban estate

The devices were initially found by a member of the public. They were disabled without the need for a controlled explosion.

AN ARMY BOMB squad has disabled three explosive devices discovered on a green area in a suburban Dublin estate last night.

The devices were initially found by a member of the public in the Cushlawn area of Tallaght. Local gardaí were alerted, and the bomb disposal unit were then called in.

Homes nearby were evacuated and the area sealed off as the explosives experts arrived at around 8.30pm.

The devices were eventually rendered safe without the need for a controlled explosion to be carried out, and the all clear was given before 10pm.

According to the Defence Forces:

“The Team then transported the devices back to a secure military location for further examination, where they were declared viable shortly before midnight.”

The components parts have been handed over to gardaí, who will now investigate.

Last night’s incident was the 23rd call out of an Bomb Disposal Team so far this year. They’ve dealt with ten viable devices since 1 January.
