Boy, 2, dies in hospital after fall from Dublin apartment window

The two-year-old is understood to have fallen from an apartment window on the fourth floor of a building in Inchicore.

A TWO-YEAR-OLD boy has died at a Dublin hospital after falling from an apartment window earlier this morning.

The child fell from a window, understood to be on the fourth floor, at the Tramyard Court apartment complex in Inchicore.

A Garda spokesman said the emergency services were summoned shortly after 10am, and that the child was removed to Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin in a critical condition.

He died from his injuries in the hospital this afternoon.

The circumstances incident remain under investigation and Gardaí have asked witnesses to the incident to contact them.

  That is so so sad. God love his poor parents. I was passing by those apartments 2 weeks ago and saw a child standing up (I’m assuming on a chair or table, cause I could see his whole body) leaning against the window looking out and waving at people.

Heard this story this morning and gave me a shiver to think about it. Now the news has broken that he has died. Poor little thing, my thoughts are with his parents. This is going to be a very difficult time for them

  @ Mark Langtry, it’s not just little boys in fairness. I went through a period of drinking interesting things to find out what they tasted like at that age. Thank god for childproof caps. My parents bought me to A&E once as I’d managed to get my hands on some 3 in 1 oil!

I have a 2 year old boy, I can not begin to comprehend what his parents are going through! Once upon a time I would have been critical of the parents to a degree but not now!! It doesn’t matter how diligent you are and what precautions you take, toddlers still manage to get into precarious situations through curiosity to sometimes disastrous consequences. I hope they manage to cope!

Thoughts and prayers are with his family first and foremost but spare a thought to those emergency services personnel that attended the scene. Such incidents like this stay with you for life.

  Very true Alan. It’s a terrible situation for all involved. I used to live in that apartment complex, I have a two-year-old son myself and I can’t even begin to imagine the agonies his family are going through right now.

have a 2 yr old myself & live on 4th floor with balcony, but at least ours are not climbable, the railings in that picture look very dangerous for a small one climbing everywhere, i have nightmares of her dragging a chair up to ours all the same…can only imagine what parents are going thru, horrific stuff. really sad.

  Was on a holiday abroad with kids (in the good old days) few years back and the apartment had a balcony. Couldn’t relax at all when we were in it, ended up locking the door out to balcony and not using it at all

  It is my solid opinion that the red thumb system on this site does not work well. People get red thumbed or expressing their anger when they see red thumbs. People get red thumbed for expressing sympathy when a tragedy occurs by trollers who have nothing better to do. The journal should do more to curtail the red thumb brigades. I accept that some red thumbs are given in error, either on a desktop or an iphone, but it couldn’t account for more than a small fraction of cases. A lot of trolling goes on here and it drags the site down. Surely they can deactivate the thumbs for certain stories?

Can we have emergency legislation passed through the Dail changing the building regs making it compulsory to have child safety measures in apartments ? Is that too much to ask?

  The legislation is there already in Technical Guidance Document K of the building regulations. Guarding of 1100mm in height measured from the top of any horizontal in the guarding to the top of the rail. The problem here is enforcement. Someone gave a certificate of compliance for that building. Take a look at the pictures. Is the top of the upper most railing 1.1m from the horizontal “step” bars running across it?
