FAMILY-OWNED CONFECTIONERY firm Broderick’s has spent millions on a huge new factory in Tallaght – and now they’ve revealed what goes on behind closed doors.
Earlier this year the firm, which makes and sells handmade, sugary snacks, raised a huge wad of cash.
Brothers Barry and Bernard Broderick wanted the firm to grow, and decided that they needed to move production from their factory in Walkinstown, Dublin.
Fora has decided to look at how Irish manufacturers make some of the useful, interesting – or in this case – delicious products that people use every day.
With that in mind, Barry Broderick took us behind the scenes at their new factory in Tallaght, which is about half the size of a GAA pitch.
He showed us how they make one of their most popular products: the Rocky Road cake bar.
Broderick’s exports to the US and 24 countries across continental Europe, the Middle East and parts of Asia.
The company is still in the process of moving all of its staff to Tallaght. It had about 100 people at Walkisntown, and expects that the new space will allow it to hire about 40 more people.
It also predicts that the new space will let it massively expand its production: the firm booked sales of more than €8 million, something which it expects to double this year.
The company, in its second generation of family ownership, was originally founded by Ina Broderick in 1984.
