12 arrested and 8 shotguns seized in garda operation targeting burglary gang

Items such as jewellery, cash and electronic goods were seized in the operation spanning three counties.

TWELVE PEOPLE WERE arrested across three counties today in a garda operation targeting an organised crime gang involved in a number of burglaries.

The operation was coordinated by gardaí in Tipperary, Kilkenny and Waterford who searched 42 residential properties and seized items such as jewellery, cash and electronic goods, believed to be stolen.

A total of twelve people were arrested. Six men and two women are detained at various garda stations and can be held for up to seven days. Another man and woman who were arrested have since been released.

There was already a warrant for the arrest of the final two and they were taken straight to prison, gardaí said this evening.

In recent weeks in the Clonmel area, gardaí in this investigation recovered eight shotguns. A number of the gang members also had their bank accounts frozen in the lead up to the operation.
