Garda twitter

Gardaí CAN use bus lanes outside of emergencies (but they don't want to shout about it)

If they don’t do it and instead lurk in regular traffic they can be “accused of being sneaky”, according to the Garda Twitter account.

THE OPERATOR OF the official Garda Traffic Twitter account committed a minor social media faux pas in the course of answering an enquiry from a member of the public this week – but was quick to apologise.

The question: Are officers allowed to use bus lanes, all the time?

imageAt first, the response seems a little severe:

imageBut it appears it was just an example of that age-old problem…

After a brief side-discussion about the merits of green apples versus red apples (yes, really) the conversation gets back on topic, with the questioner stating that his query had come about as he had seen gardaí driving in bus lanes in “non-emergency or heavy traffic” situations.

The response to this seems to make a certain amount of sense too:

imageSo. That settles that.

As you can see from the above, the force takes a slightly more relaxed approach to its online interaction than people might expect.
