Violet Crawley's manor from Downton Abbey is for sale for €5.5 million

It’s big and it’s beautiful.

FANCY LIVING LIKE royalty? Well, if you have a spare €5.5m hanging around the place, you could become the new owner of a house that featured in Downton Abbey.

Byfleet Manor in Surrey (sorry, did we mention you have to travel too?) is on the market for £3.95m. Most know it as home to Maggie Smith’s character Lady Violet Crawley in Downton Abbey.

It’s an eight-bedroom, Grade II listed home, with four reception rooms and around 19 acres of land. At 20 miles from the centre of London, and 15 miles from Heathrow, it’s a nice spot for jetsetters too.

Byfleet Manor has a long history – it was first recorded in 1086 in the Domesday Book, and by 1307 was a Royal hunting lodge.

The building as it stands now was built in 1686, but it has some features dating further back than that.

Visitors to the pad included King Edward I and II, as well as Queen Elizabeth I way back in 1576.

A beautiful house at the end of a winding country lane? Sounds like heaven.

Now if you don’t mind, we’ll be searching behind the sofa cushions for some spare change…
