Call for Anglo musical to be brought stateside… with Seán Fitzpatrick puppet in tow

American broadcaster Max Keiser has set up an online fund to bring ‘ANGLO: The Musical’ to New York or Boston.

THE MUCH-ANTICIPATED show ‘Anglo: The Musical’ hit a snag just weeks ahead of opening – when legal concerns forced writers to remove one of the musical’s main characters, Seán Fitzpatrick.

A producer of the musical, which charts “the rise and fall” of Ireland in the grip of the Celtic Tiger, yesterday confirmed the show would carry on without Seán Fitzpatrick the puppet after receiving legal advice from both the Director of Public Prosecutions and Fitzpatrick’s solicitors.

Although the play will also feature puppet versions of former Taoisigh Bertie Ahern and Brian Cowen, neither have voiced their opposition to references to them in the show.

Speaking to TheJournal.ie, Darren Smith of Kite Entertainment said the show would go ahead – and would still be “really funny” – despite the recent script changes.

However, American broadcaster Max Keiser has now launched an appeal for funds to stage the show, complete with Fitzpatrick the puppet, in the US.

Tweeting on the matter, Keiser suggested staging the show in either New York or Boston, and included a link to an online fund seeking $100,000 to bring the show stateside. At the time of writing, the website reported it was 26 per cent funded.
