THE TOP COP in a major American city was overcome by emotion last night, while talking to reporters about the death of a five-month-old girl.

Calvin Williams, Chief of Police in Cleveland, Ohio broke down in tears while expressing his sympathy with the baby’s family.

According to local TV station Fox 8, Aavielle Wakefield was travelling in a car with her mother and grandmother, on a trip to the supermarket last night, when as many as six bullets were shot into the vehicle.

One hit Aavielle in the chest, killing her.

Williams told the media it is likely the family’s car was not the real target of the shooting.

Local prosecutor Tim McGinty today announced a $25,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest.

Cleveland has seen a recent spate of fatal shootings involving children, who are caught in the crossfire of territorial battles between local gangs.

In the last month, four children under the age of 10 have been shot, and three have died.

Five-year-old Ramon Burnett was caught in crossfire in early September, and just two weeks ago three-year-old Major Howard was killed during a drive-by shooting, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Discussing the latest death last night, Williams became emotional.

Enough is enough. When are we going to stop counting babies being killed out there on the streets, for nothing.
This should not be happening in our city, and we’ve got to do something about it.
