A PASSENGER PLANE that was reported to have crashed in the sea off Gran Canaria has turned out to be… a boat.
The mixup came after emergency services reported a passenger jet had gone into the water near the popular tourist island. Instead, the object in the ocean transpired to be a shipping vessel. Which makes sense, because boats are generally in the sea.
Local officials are now saying that it was a false alarm. But it didn’t stop some news outlets jumping the gun.
Local media reported that a crash had occurred in the sea two miles off the coast of the island, adding that rescue services were on their way to the scene.
However, Spain’s airports association said that a boat had been mistaken for a plane.
Right so.
For the record, the boat does kind of look like a plane if you squint and look at it from far away.
