We will be all doped out of out head when paying are taxes.I heard smoking 1 joint was as bad as smoking 20 cigs as far as lung cancer is concerned.
I think if legalized we would crave something different that’s the nature of the beast.basically an unhappy lot who need stimulants to get a boost.

@ Michael Cambell …. The problem is where you ‘heard’ it from. There have been numerous studies conducted on this issue… it really depends on whether you get your information from, medical journals or from sources such as The Daily Mail who seek only to sensationalise.

A few minutes with Google would give you all the information you need to form an informed opinion.

Cannabis has been found to be beneficial to sufferers of numerous medical conditions. Dr Manuel Guzman at the University of Madrid found that THC (the main active ingredient of cannabis) causes Glioma (a type of brain cancer) cells to self destruct. Professor Raphael Mechoulam at the university of Jerusalem has verified and expanded on these findings (look it up for yourself or else I’ll be typing all day here!)
There are prescription drugs now available in the USA & UK, that are based on cannabis and that target some of these conditions. Synthetic cannabis drugs such as Marinol are used in cancer treatment but are not nearly as effective as the ‘real thing’ i.e. directly using the cannabis plant itself. There is also a drug called Sativex which is a cannabis extract, now available in the UK to MS patients but denied to patients living in Ireland.

Back to the lung cancer claims … The following link gives the details of the largest study of it’s kind into the relationship between smoking pot and lung cancer. Rather than ‘causing lung cancer’ the study found that cannabis may even provide a protective effect from cancer !!

The reality is that whatever your view of cannabis there are undeniable medicinal benefits as well as economic and environmental benefits. I believe that the reasons why the possible negative effects of cannabis are reported and not the positive are purely political (Prof David Nutt, the former UK governments chief adviser on drugs was sacked for publicly stating that cannabis was relatively harmless – in relation to alcohol etc – and that it had medicinal benefits)

One other thing… you don’t have to ‘smoke’ it. It can also be made into Cannabis Oil, Butter etc

You do realise wikipedia isn’t the last word on matters. And so what if there are long term effects. Surely we’re big and old enough now to chose what we want to put in our bodies. Try it. Live a little.

If you refer to my original post, I didn’t say Wikipedia is the last word. Maybe you could do some unbiased research, educate yourself and you won’t appear so insistent.
