Cannabis pellets worth €10,000 ingested by man are "recovered" in Cork

The Spanish national arrived on a flight into Cork Airport yesterday.

DRUGS WITH A street value in the region of €10,000 have been seized in an unusual operation overseen by officers from the Revenue’s Customs Service and gardaí in Cork.

A Spanish national aged in his 40s was detained at Cork Airport yesterday after arriving on a flight from Spain – having being identified by a sniffer dog.

Following questioning by officers, he was informed he was being detained under the Customs and Excise Act. The man later began passing pellets – found to be cannabis – and was immediately transferred to hospital.

Gardaí were called in at this point, and the man was arrested after passing the remainder of the swallowed drugs under medical supervision.

He had ingested around a kilogram of the drug.

The man is to be taken to Cork Garda Station for further questioning later this evening.
