Man killed, 9-year-old boy injured in Galway single-car crash

It happened just outside Loughrea at lunchtime today.

A MAN IN his 40s has been killed and a young boy injured, following a single-vehicle crash in Co Galway this afternoon.

The car smashed into a wall on the N65 Loughrea to Portumna Road at around 12.45pm. It happened in the townland of Moyleen, around 2km from the centre of Loughrea.

The two occupants of the car were rushed by ambulance to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe, where the man was later pronounced dead. The nine-year-old boy’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Forensic tests have been carried out at the scene, and the road has since re-opened in both directions.
