Six homes evacuated during Newry security alert

A viable device was found at about midnight.

POLICE IN NORTHERN Ireland evacuated six homes after a viable device was found at a house in Carraig Crosain at Mayobridge overnight.

Detectives said the residents were allowed to return to their properties at about 5.20am today.

PSNI officers responded to a report of a suspicious device at the Newry house at midnight. Army bomb disposal officers were called to examine the device, which was then declared viable.

An appeal for information has been issued and anyone who can assist is asked to contact Newry station on 0845 600 8000.
