Four arrested for trespassing at 'pyjama couple' house in Castleknock

A group of protesters took over the house yesterday after the pensioners was evicted from it last month.

FOUR MEN WERE arrested yesterday after gaining entry to a house in Castleknock, Dublin, from which a couple had recently been evicted.

Violet and Martin Coyne were evicted from their home in Castleknock on the August 27 after refusing to comply with an eviction order that had been obtained by ACC Bank. They were banded the ‘pyjama couple’ after turning up at the Four Courts in their sleepwear shortly after the house was repossessed.

Yesterday, a number of protesters from the resident’s rights group the Land League and Friends, re-entered the property, which had been guarded by security. Spokesperson Jerry Beades told TheJournal.ie yesterday that it was a “peaceful reoccupation”.

Gardaí attended the scene and a little before 3pm, four men were arrested for trespassing. They were detained for a brief period of time before being released. A garda spokesperson said a file will be sent to the DPP.

Martin Coyne said yesterday that neither he nor his wife had been involved in the takeover of the property.

“This is done to highlight thousands like us,” he said. “It just happened that our thing has been high profile of late”.
