Gardaí confirm no arrests after 'Project X Cavan' house party

News of a house party in Lavey, Co Cavan went viral on social media yesterday with hundreds attending the event but no incidents reported.

GARDAÍ HAVE CONFIRMED that they attended the scene of a house party in Cavan last night but made no arrests following fears the event would get out of hand after news of it went viral on social media.

A teenager’s Facebook invitation went viral on Twitter yesterday with over 1,500 saying on the now defunct Facebook page that they planned to attend the event dubbed ‘Project X Cavan’.

The title is believed to be based on the film Project X, released earlier this year, which follows three friends who plan to gain popularity by throwing a party that escalates out of control.

The house where the party was due to take place in Lavey in Ballyjamesduff, Co Cavan was monitored by local gardaí after news of the event spread on Facebook and Twitter.

Although pictures provided to TheJournal.ie indicated that hundreds were in attendance, Gardaí said today that no incidents were reported and there were no arrests.

One witness said that there had been a lot of noise and disruption caused by the presence of around a hundred cars and hundreds of people.

“The amount of cars was crazy but towards the end of he night there was good amount of gardaí present which stopped any real trouble happening,” he told TheJournal.ie

“From around 1am people were dispersing,” he said, adding that he estimated that between 300 and 500 people were in attendance.

#ProjectXCavan continues to generate conversation on Twitter today with the alleged name of the person who threw the party currently trending in Ireland.
