Man due in court tonight over Bailieborough shooting and siege

The man – questioned over the killing of Patricia Kearns last week and the subsequent pub stand-off – is due in court at 7pm.

A 56-YEAR-OLD MAN is due in court tonight in connection with the death of mother-of-four Patricia Kearns in Co Cavan last week.

The man — arrested following a tense stand-off with gardaí in Bailieborough in the early hours of last Friday — was questioned by officers today after being released from Cavan General Hospital yesterday.

He had been receiving medical attention at a psychiatric unit at the facility in the wake of his detention.

The man barricaded himself into the Square Bar in Bailieborough with a shotgun last Thursday.

Shortly before the siege, 54-year-old Kearns had been found shot dead at a house nearby.

A special sitting of Cavan District Court has been arranged for 7pm this evening.
