Here is how long it takes children to start fighting in a car

Bickering is almost inevitable on the long holiday drives.

NEW RESEARCH HAS found that it takes around two hours and 37 minutes for children to start fighting on a long car journey.

The number comes from The Highways Agency, the government body responsible for looking after England’s motorways and A-roads.

It was found that it took children two hours and 23 minutes to start asking “are we there yet”.

A mere 15 minutes later rowing would then break out.

Out of the parents of two or more children that took part in the survey, 79% said that arguments were an inevitable part of long-distance drives.

Speaking about the results, Simon Sheldon-Wilson, director of customer operations with Highways England and a father of four said:

A decent break should help stave off the kids’ boredom, and hopefully prevent arguments from stressing your family before you’ve even reached your destination.

He went on to state that it was advisable for breaks to be taken every two hours to stave off the inevitable boredom that might set in.

It was found that among those asked the average summer journey would take three hours and 49 minutes.

Despite this, 55% of drivers said that they did not intend to take any breaks during the trip other than brief toilet stops.
