Pics: Two million cigarettes from Vietnam described as 'wood pellets' seized at Dublin Port

Investigations are continuing with a view to prosecution.

TWO MILLION CIGARETTES worth over €1 million were seized at Dublin Port yesterday afternoon.

The smuggled cigarettes branded ‘JIM’ were described as wood pellets.

They arrived into Dublin Port from Vietnam via Rotterdam.

The cigarettes were uncovered when Revenue officers, acting on intelligence, identified and examined a shipping container.

Officers then carried out a follow up search of a business premises in Cork and investigations are continuing with a view to prosecution.

Revenue stated that the cigarettes represent a potential loss to the exchequer of approximately €900,000.

These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing enforcement operations targeting the illegal importation, supply and sale of tobacco products.
