GARDAÍ SAY A significant seizure of drugs and ammunition on Tuesday will cause a major disruption to a crime gang, based in Dublin, who are said to have international connections.

Cocaine and heroin worth up to €4.9 million were seized during a raid of a premises in Clondalkin on 10 February.

The planned search carried out at Bluebell Industrial Estate, uncovering 32.5 kilos of heroin and half a kilo of cocaine. A handgun and ammunition were also discovered.

A 39-year-old man arrested on Monday as part of the same investigation is still being held at Clondalkin garda station. So far, the probe has led to the seizure of heroin and cocaine worth €5.2 million, five firearms, ammunition and cash.

Gardaí said that while it is an ongoing investigation, they are working towards other arrests.

“This is a significant seizure of heroin, which causes terrible damage in communities throughout this country,” a garda spokesperson said. “This operation has taken drugs, firearms and ammunition off our streets, which could have caused terrible damage.”

Tests will now be carried out on the weapons to determine if they were used in other crimes.

Gardaí said they were “surprised” by the style of assault weapons seized as it is rare to come across “weapons of that style”.

“This lengthy operation has caused major disruption to an Irish organised crime gang with international connections and is part of our ongoing strategy of targeting criminal gangs.”
