Commuting liveblog: Fallen trees and heavy traffic causing delays on this cold morning

Here’s all the information to make your morning journey.

Hello and welcome to TheJournal.ie‘s commuting liveblog.

We’ll be with you until 9am, bringing you all the latest traffic, transport and weather news this morning.

First thing’s first, here’s a summary of the weather. It’s going to be chilly for sure anyway with Met Éireann predicting a cold and windy day.

At the moment temperatures around the country are about 2 to 3 degrees and it’s not expected to get much warmer later into the day. Top temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees are being predicted and there’ll be some rain too.

If you’re commuting to Dublin from Kildare or the west of the county you should know that there’s a problem with trains from Maynooth.

A fault with an earlier train means that the 7.55am service to Bray will be starting from Clonsilla, not Maynooth.

In Cork, there’s a crash on the R626 Midleton/Lisgoold Road about 2km outside Midleton. AA Roadwatch are warning that it’s very icy along that stretch.

Perhaps some advice that can be taken by motorists across the country on this cold morning.

Dublin’s M50 motorway is relatively clear by midweek standards, but it is busy southbound between the Blanchardstown and Firhouse junctions.

It’s because of a broken down van that has now been cleared but is still causing delays.

Out west, a fallen tree on the main Sligo to Ballina road (N59) is causing problems with Sligo County Council saying they have been sent to clear the blockage.

There’s been a collision on Ballymun Road at the entrance to Northwood in north Dublin. Traffic is being blocked inbound and is passing in the lane to turn right to IKEA.

If you’re wondering about the rain, it’ll be mainly scattered and will mostly affect Ulster as we all eastern parts of Leinster where rain may turn into prolonged downpours.

Met Éireann say that there’ll be “just the odd heavy one elsewhere” with much of the south midlands and southeast staying nearly fully dry.

Here’s the current rainfall radar:

It’s all about trees in Sligo, the earlier tree blocking the N59 has now been cleared but another fallen tree on the regional Sligo to Dromahair road near Parke’s Castle is now causing delays.

If it’s safe to do so, let us know how the roads are where you are. You can tweet us @thejournal_ie or send an email to tips@thejournal.ie.

If you’re heading to the airport or are in the area, be aware that there’s a breakdown on the city bound slip road from the M50 northbound.

Dublin City Council @LiveDrive is reporting that the M50 northbound is unusually busy from Junction 13 at Dundrum to Junction 11 at Tallaght.

In Galway City, AA Roadwatch says that it’s slow on the N17 Loughgeorge to Claregalway and busy again approaching Bothar nadTreabh.

There are also inbound delays on Seamus Quirke Road from the Rahoon Road junction over Quincentenary Bridge. On the Dublin Rd inbound, there are some delays from Roscam to GMIT.

The following roads are either closed or impassable due to flooding:

  • The N65 Borrisokane/ Portumna Road is impassable on the Portumna side of Carrigahorig.
  • The on-ramp to the N11 Dublin/ Wexford Rd southbound at junction 10.
  • In Cavan, the Belturbet/ Killashandra Road (R201) is closed at Deralk.
  • In Roscommon, the Tulsk/ Ballintober Road (R367) is closed on both sides of Castleplunket.

If you’re heading to work and need something to cheer you up, here’s a reminder that love conquers all. Even a 25-year age gap and four ex spouses.

Media mogul Rupert Murdoch and former supermodel Jerry Hall are to get married following a four month relationship.

Everybody say awwww.

The crash at the Ballymun Road junction with Northwood Road near Ikea has now been cleared.

In Clare, there’s a broken down bus on the M18 Galway to Limerick road to at the flyover for Killow.

One final update this morning, the N7 is moving slowly at Green Isle because of a breakdown in the middle lane.

Also, a reminder to be cautious because of reports of black ice in some areas.
