A man in his 80s has died in a Cork house fire

A second man in his 40s was injured.

AN ELDERLY MAN has died and another man has been injured in a house fire in Buttevant, Co Cork last night.

Gardaí and the Cork Fire Service arrived at the house in Knockbarry Cottages at around 9.30pm. The fire was brought under control by fire services a shortly after.

The body of the deceased man, who is in his 80s, remains at the scene.

A second man in his 40s was rescued from the house and taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The circumstances of the fire are under investigation, the house is sealed off and a technical examination will be carried out later today. The coroner has been notified.
