Man due in court over weekend shooting incident in Cork town

He was arrested on Sunday after a Garda manhunt.

A MAN IS due in court this morning in connection with a weekend shooting incident and subsequent manhunt in Co Cork.

Gardaí were alerted to the incident, near the town of Newmarket, in the early hours of the morning on Saturday.

It’s believed a shotgun was discharged, and it’s reported six horses and two dogs were shot dead.

An alert was issued by gardaí on Sunday morning seeking information on a Toyota Corolla car. A man had left the scene in a car matching that description, gardaí said.

The public was urged not to approach the car.

A man was arrested later on Sunday, and taken to Mallow Garda Station for questioning.

In a statement this morning, gardaí said a man was due to appear before Mallow District Court today charged in connection with the incident.
