CORONATION ST STAR Michael Le Vell, who plays Kevin Webster in the soap, has been cleared of abuse allegations laid against him.

The Crown Prosecution Service has decided there is not enough evidence for the case to go ahead, The Daily Mail reports today.

Le Vell (46) denied abuse allegations after being arrested on suspicion of ‘historic rape’ but not enough evidence was found to charge Le Vell.

After the allegations emerged, Le Vell split from his wife, Janette Beverley.

The couple were childhood sweethearts who had even starred in Coronation Street together at one point.

  • How many people will notice/remember that the charges were dropped?

  • A mans life ruined …..

  • If the man us innocent why not renew his contract???? If he is guilty the police would have charged him and then the courts would have dealt him his just sentence but as the article has stated he is innocent means it was all a fabricated

  • You can be charged for wasting police time or making false allegations. The problem with historic rape is that it is very hard to prove it unless there is a witness to the assault. LeVell’s name should not have been released to or by the press unless he was charged as everyone is presumed innocent until the Sun or the rest of the muckrakers get their hands on it. Then you have idiots like Paul above who read that crap and judge people by what they read in the tabloids and not by rule of law. Nobody knows what the exact extent of the evidence or allegations were made except the police and legal teams and the do a better job the Paul and his kind in reviewing all aspects of the case. In the absence of a formal charge the accused is presumed innocent due to lack of evidence of any wrong doing. The accuser’s ID is kept secret but the accused is thrown to the wolves, a system that needs changing.

It is worth bearing in mind that (without prejudice to the accused) there were no charges brought due to lack of evidence, this does not mean that the accuser was telling lies, just that there was insufficient evidence to prosecute the case.

  • Exactly. Those guilty of making false claims make it more and more difficult for true victims to get justice.

  • I think a good example is Justin Bieber when recently he was falsely accused by a psychotic fan claiming that he had fathered her child.
Sadly, when you are wealthy you will be targeted by GOLD DIGGERS.

  • A false allegation of any abuse but in particular sexual abuse and or rape is the most heinous of all allegations that can be raised against an individual.
And the biggest problem one faces is that your are guilty until proven innocent.
The judiciary in Ireland/UK have to this very date not realised what lifelong damage a false accusation means to the accused.
Lee Kelly has a valid point in his comment but in ireland if you are falsely accused by a vindictive spouse/partner you have no means of clearing your name.
That is because of the “In Camera Rule”
It is a very convenient piece if legislation that forces you to utter silence as far as your courtcase is concerned.
I am glad that Michael Le Vell had the opportunity to go public in order to clear his name.

  • They had split up a few months before the allegations were made.

  • Lee Kelly
I notice you got a few thumbs down re your post.
I would like to invite readers to comment on same and why they gave you a negative review.
    Your comment was objective.

His wife of 25 yrs left him after the allegations, is that not saying something? She either knew something and wouldn’t support him or coincidentally the marriage ran it’s course at the same time. Police took this very serioucly, and did what they could to nail him. Shame evidence was lavking, the victim should have come forward or confided in someone straight after the attack. I hope ITV have the sense not to renew his contract.

    • I hope you read the story that said he’s still an innocent man . Why should they not renew his contract . In the eyes of the law he did nothing wrong . It’s nothing new for celebrities to have false allegations thrown at them and again they guilty unless proven innocent . How do we know the girl didn’t make the whole thing up because she was a fan , maybe . You and the rest of us have no idea why his wife did not stand by him . It’s sad that some people have their own mind made up and have trialled him before he got to a court room .

    • That is a bit harsh. If there is no evidence, how are you privy to information that lets you say someone should be deprived of their only means of earning a living?
