Inquest into crash that killed Cork toddler to resume today

The child’s mother, the only survivor of the crash, is questioning how police handled the events leading up to the crash.

AN INQUEST INTO the death of a 16-month-old Cork boy will resume today.

Oisín Twomey was on holiday with his family in England when an apparently suicidal taxi driver crashed head first into their car.

Oisín and his unborn baby sister died in the crash, with his father Con losing his life ten months later.

Only Oisín’s mother Elber survived.

She has been questioning how police handled the events leading up to the crash.

The taxi driver, Marek Wojciechowski, was being treated as a high-risk missing person at the time of the crash and a police car with its siren and a set of blue lights flashing was travelling behind him.

He veered his car into the path of the Twomey family’s Volkswagen Golf on Hamelin Way, just 5 kilometres outside the English seaside town of Torquay. He was also killed in the collision.

The inquest is expected to reach its closing stages today.
