GOOD DAY FOR:
- Fine Gael, whose approval rating has increased by three points to 38 per cent, according to the latest Red C/Sunday Business Post.
- Family homes, which Fianna Fáil’s Michael McGrath says his party is committed to protecting by turning the economy around, creating jobs and making no new spending commitments.
- Free education, if Sinn Féin gets into government. The party has promised to “make free education a reality” at the launch of their education plan today. Aengus Ó Snodaigh said his party would establish a book lending scheme, increase the school capitation grant and oppose third-level fees.
- Gay marriage, which the Green Party says must be enshrined in law and promises to introduce if they are elected back into government.
BAD DAY FOR:
- Complacency, which Enda Kenny promises will not be an issue for his party despite their strong position in opinion polls. He said no votes had yet been cast, and his party would be focused on bringing its five point plan to people around the country.
- Sinn Féin, as Fine Gael promises it will not make a deal with it to go into government.
ELECTION JIBE OF THE DAY:
Once again Fine Gael has gone for election gimmicks over a plan of real reform. The big idea is that there will be fewer people doing basically the same thing as in the past.
- Fianna Fáil’s Averil Power has a dig at FG’s proposals for constitutional reform.
