Former DJ Dave Lee Travis not guilty of 12 indecent assault charges

The jury failed to return verdicts on two charges.

FORMER BBC DJ Dave Lee Travis has been cleared of multiple charges of indecent assault at a court in London today.

Sky News reports that the jury failed to return verdicts on one charge of indecent assault and one of sexual assault. It was discharged from reaching verdicts on those counts by the judge.

The Radio 1 presenter had pleaded not guilty to all 14 counts which referred to alleged incidents between 1976 and 2006.

He was arrested and charged as part of Scotland Yard’s investigation into historic sexual abuse by Jimmy Savile and other famous people.

The trial heard from 11 women who said they had been assaulted by the accused. One had said she had been assaulted as a 15-year-old girl. Over the 30-year-period in question, Travis presented Top of the Pops and programmes on Radio 1.

According to the Guardian, Travis smiled and glanced at the press bench when the verdicts were read out. Outside, he told reporters that he was “not delighted at all” when asked whether he was delighted.
