Former TV3 boss has just been made CEO of An Post

David McRedmond takes up the job next month.

AN POST HAS named former TV3 boss David McRedmond as its new group CEO.

He will take up the job next month for a seven-year period.

The Dublin man headed up TV3 until its sale to Liberty Global in 2015.

According to An Post, he “transformed the company into a major Irish broadcaster”.

Also on his CV is a stint at the top of retailer WH Smith and commercial and managing director roles at Eircom.

McRedmond was appointed after an “extensive competitive search”, An Post said today in its announcement.

Chairman Dermot Divilly added, “I am delighted to have attracted a business leader of the experience of David McRedmond to lead An Post through the challenging industry and technology environment in the years ahead.

I have been impressed by his ability to lead transformational change in companies across several adjacent sectors such as retailing, telecoms and media.

The job is not an easy one.

An Post joins many global postal agencies in a bid to keep themselves relevant through services other than snail mail.

He will also join at a time of intense pressure for Ireland’s network of post offices. Retired CEO Donal Connell last year said that the company faced serious challenges as it designated various rural post offices for closure as they were economically unviable.

Postmasters have also been on tenterhooks around the country, worried about the effect any change to the social welfare payments contract could bring.

The company’s finances rely heavily on the contract and any move to an online system could put it in jeopardy.

On his appointment being revealed, McRedmond said, “It is an honour and a rare opportunity to be able to lead such a major organisation as An Post. The company has a magnificent history and is a great and much-loved brand.

“My job will be to ensure its future is as bright as its past, meeting the seismic market changes head-on with boldness and creativity. I have been convinced by the board’s dedication to the task of ensuring An Post is central to a dynamic, open Irish economy.”
