Death of Galway publican caused by assault, says pathologist

A post-mortem on 56-year-old John Kenny shows he died as a result of an assault; Gardaí have appealed for witnesses.

A POST-MORTEM on the remains of a Galway publican and schoolteacher, who was found dead in his pub on Sunday, has shown that he died as a result of an assault.

State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy made the findings after examining Kenny’s remains yesterday evening.

Gardáí have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information with contact them in Oughterard at (091) 557320, or any Garda station.

Kenny, 56, was a father of four and taught at a secondary school in Athenry as welling as running the family-owned pub.

His body was discovered by family members on Sunday afternoon. It is reported that he had his hands tied when he was discovered.
