"Pizza and politics don't mix" - no, Domino's didn't send same-sex marriage leaflets

A leaflet was put inside a menu, sparking some discussion.

DOMINO’S PIZZA HAS assured customers that they are not pushing a vote for either side in the upcoming marriage referendum.

A Twitter user posted a picture of a menu that had been delivered to her home, containing a leaflet for the No campaign – from the Iona Institute.

The picture was widely circulated and many speculated on the links from Domino’s co-founder Tom Monaghan and the Iona Institute.

Monaghan is a backer of a number of Catholic charities, but has never been a director of the Iona Institute and sold his stake in the pizza chain in 1998 for $1 billion.

However, the truth, as the pizza company explained, was much simpler – a leaflet delivery company had put the two together while delivering the mail.

So there you have it – pizza and politics don’t mix.
