The DOs and DON'Ts of attending an Irish festival

We’ve got you covered.

FESTIVAL SEASON IS almost upon us and whether you’ve a veteran or a newbie, there are some things you need to know.

Irish festivals are a category all of their own – with their own special peculiarities to prepare for (mostly, the weather and the complete unpredictability of it all…).

So, we’ve rounded up some of the essentials DOs and DON’Ts of going to a festival in Ireland – whether it’s a daytime affair or a weekender.

DO bring sunscreen… and DO bring rain gear

You never can tell what the weather is going to be like at an Irish festival. The sun could be splitting the stones or the rain could be lashing down. That’s what make it fun, we promise. But just to be safe –  have a couple of options for either scenario on you.

So, for the sun – that’s suncream, sunnies and a hat and…

For the rain… Umbrellas probably aren’t the best idea (and large ones tend to be banned at festivals) but a rain jacket with a hood keeps your hands free and is the better option anyway. Rain pants are a great idea to stay totally dry and wellies are de rigueur in your fight against the inevitable mud.

DO bring your phone charger

You when your phone dies... Giphy Giphy

Your phone dying is never good even on a normal day, but you definitely don’t want it to die mid-festival. From coordinating with friends to snapping a pic of your favourite act,  you need to keep your phone juiced up. Charging stations are more and more common, so just be sure to bring your charger and you’re good to go.

DO pick up your souvenir merch

Your kids will never believe you saw *insert cool band name* if you don’t have a t-shirt stating as much, and more to the point, it’s always handy to have something clean and dry to change into, if the inevitable bucketing down of rain happens (see above…).

DON’T forget the baby wipes

It’s the little things that make all the difference and having some loo roll or wipes stashed in your bag or backpack could save endless trouble. Whether it’s to use them as God intended or just to keep clean in general a pack of wet wipes are your only man.

DON’T forget your wallet

Above all else, don’t forget your wallet – you’ll definitely need your ID as well as your debit and credit cards, and no one wants to be that person that has to have everything bought for them all day.

DON’T forget to rock out and have a great time

Remember, you’re going to have a great time, whatever the weather.

Visa contactless is a new way to pay with your Visa card that you simply touch and pay without inputting your PIN so there’s no need to carry cash at the festival. Visa has partnered with Forbidden Fruit Festival and has two bars at the festival with sections for Visa card payments. So, leave your cash (and worries) at home and party on, Garth.
