Double murderer Colin Howell pleads guilty to sex assault charges

Former dentist serving life in prison for killing his wife and former lover’s husband told the court he was “sorry” as he pleaded guilty to nine sexual assault charges.

A FORMER DENTIST convicted of murdering his wife and his ex-lover’s husband late last year has pleaded guilty to nine counts of sexual assault at Antrim Crown Court.

Colin Howell, 52, is serving a life sentence for the murders.

UTV reports that Howell had already admitted to sexually abusing three of his female patients after they were drugged for a dental procedure. Pleading guilty in court today, he also said he was sorry. The 12 charges relate to alleged incidents over the past ten years involving five women.

Howell pleaded guilty to the murders of Trevor Buchanan and Lesley Howell last year. The two had died in 1991 and their deaths were initially treated as suicide. However, a police investigation was launched in 2009 after Howell confessed to his church elders.

His former lover Hazel Stewart was sentenced to a minimum of 18 years after she too was found guilty of the murders.
