DOUBLE PENALTY POINTS should be applied during bank holiday weekends, an MEP has said.

Points for speeding would rise to eight and drink-driving to six — currently, if drivers accrue a total of 12 points they will be slapped with a six-month driving ban.

“The double penalty point rule for bank holidays already applies in the Australian state of New South Wales,” Emer Costello said, “and has led to a significant fall in road deaths there.”
