ONE IN SIX DRIVERS have witnessed a friend get behind the wheel while under the influence of drugs, a new survey reveals, while 40 per cent have seen someone drink-and-drive.

However, 30 per cent think they can get away with motoring offences.

It’s the second in a two-part eFlow/Behaviour and Attitudes survey, which has polled a small sample of 521 drivers on driving habits.

A discrepancy in the figures show that while roughly 16 per cent say they have seen a friend drive after taking recreational drugs, just one in 20 admit to the offence.

The poll reveals that one third of motorists break the speed limit every week – and some want to go faster.

The speed limit on motorways is too low according to 38 per cent of drivers, and roughly 30 per cent believe they are too low on national roads

Other findings include:

• Majority said that penalty points are a bigger deterrent than a cash fine.
• Every second person has broken the speed limit on occasion.
• Majority believe they abide by the rules of the road.
• One in five men believe the speed limit on motorways is too low.
• 62 per cent of learner drivers do not always have a fully licensed driver accompany them while driving.
• One third of all motorists admitted to occasionally taking or making a call without hands-free while driving
