Fire engine damaged after youths throw rocks and bottles

The attack has been described as “unacceptable”.

AN ATTACK ON a Dublin Fire Brigade engine by a crowd of youths last night has sparked outrage among the local community.

The incident happened at around 10pm in Finglas South.

Fire fighters were attending the scene of a tyre fire. Once they arrived the crew came under attack from a crowd of youths believed to be between the ages of 10 and 15 throwing bottles and rocks.

One rock smashed a window of the vehicle, which is now reportedly off the road for repairs.

Local Fianna Fáil councillor David Costello described the attack as “unacceptable and uncalled for”.

Attacks like this affect the entire community. This fire engine will have to be taken out of service for repair which could create delayed response times for the community.

“Action needs to be taken to ensure that the youths are dealt with and this situation never happens again.”

A post online from the Phibsboro DFB station described it as a “lucky escape”.

“Our crews have enough things to worry about when dealing with emergencies,” it read, “They don’t need to be looking over their shoulders when they are doing it.”
