Over 40,000 expected to attend Dublin Pride Festival today

The parade will start at the Garden Of Remembrance and finish at Merrion Square.

A RECORD-BREAKING CROWD is expected to line out in Dublin today for Dublin Pride.

The parade, noted for its colour and noise, will make its way through Dublin city this afternoon, with a number of streets closed for a period of time.

The parade will start at the Garden Of Remembrance and finish at Merrion Square. Assembly for those marching in the parade will begin at 12pm sharp and will begin moving off at 1:45pm sharp.

Organisers say the parade is “a celebration of the rich diversity of the LGBTQ community in Dublin, Ireland and the world, with an expanded arts, social and cultural content”.

Dublin Pride is the largest such celebration in Ireland and has grown from a one-day event into the 10-day festival that was held this week.

In 2013, over 36,000 people marched. The organisers stressed that drinking while marching was illegal.

There will be over a dozen floats and 70 different groups marching.
