Gangland

Two men killed in separate shootings in Dublin

A second man has been shot in Clondalkin.

TWO MEN HAVE been killed in shootings in Dublin in the last number of hours.

In the first incident, a man was shot last night in The Sunset House in Summerhill, Dublin 1, near Croke Park.

Just over two hours later, a man was shot dead in Clondalkin.

Gardaí in Mountjoy are investigating the first fatal shooting, which occurred shortly after 9.30pm.

A garda statement said of this incident:

A male aged in his mid 30s suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at scene.

Gardaí are now investigating a second fatal shooting incident that occurred in the Kilcronan area of Clondalkin last night at approximately 11.50pm.

A man in his mid 30’s suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at scene.

Summerhill shooting

Gardaí said that during this first shooting, two men entered the pub.

One of these men discharged a firearm, fatally injuring a man, aged in his mid 30s. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A silver coloured Audi A6 car, with a partial registration 04C, was later recovered on Walsh Road, Drumcondra, Dublin 9 and has been seized for technical examination.

Prior to this car being recovered it is believed that three men left Walsh Road in the direction of Home Farm Road in another silver-coloured saloon car.

Investigating gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them. They are particularly looking for people who were in the Sunset House public house yesterday evening from 9pm onwards, or who may have observed a silver coloured Audi A6 car, partial registration 04C prior to this incident or its discovery on Walsh Road, to contact them at Mountjoy Garda Station on 01 6668600, The Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any garda station.

Early reports suggest the first shooting in Summerhill Parade may have a gangland connection.

It is believed that the man killed is a senior figure in the dissident Republican movement.

He was involved in planning the Regency Hotel shooting which left David Byrne, a member of the Kinahan crime gang, dead.

“People are fearful”

Newly-elected Fine Gael TD Noel Rock told TheJournal.ie that a car had been found burnt-out in Drumcondra, at the end of Walsh Road by Griffith Park. It is yards from Rock’s own home.

He said that CCTV had been installed in that area this morning.

Asked about the mood tonight in the Drumcondra area, he said:

“People are fearful, naturally enough, of what might happen next. People are fearful of potential reprisals.

He noted that this is an area that hadn’t seen gangland shooting in the past, but tonight’s was the third such incident connected to Drumcondra.

He said that the overtime package for gardaí in policing the ongoing gangland feud needs to be continued.

“It’s quite clear that it’s reaching into suburban areas,” he said of gangland activity.
