Step on it: 10 of Dublin's most beautiful mosaic doorsteps

Keep your eyes peeled for some of these tiled masterpieces.

DUBLIN’S DOORWAYS ARE home to some of the city’s most underrated works of art, walked on by millions of feet every day.

Mosaic tiling is not unique to our capital city – the technique dates back as far as Ancient Greece and Rome – but it was widely used in Victorian Dublin to decorate shop floors and doorways.

Many of the best examples of mosaic tiling around Dublin are still there today – and all you have to do is look down.

Here are ten doorways scattered across the city and suburbs (most old, some more modern) that will stop you in your tracks. Oh, and they make for great Instagram fodder too:

1. Bewley’s Cafe, Grafton St

2. The Stag’s Head, Dame Lane

3. Fagan’s Pub, Drumcondra

4. The Swan Pub, York Street

5. Ulysses Rare Bookstore, Duke Street

6. Beggs at Dalkey Pharmacy, Dalkey

7. T Lyster mosaic at The Glimmer Man, Stoneybatter

8. The Swan, Aungier St

9. Exchequer St

10. Dawson Jewellers, Dawson St
