Fair play Irish Rail, keep up the improvements!

I do like Irish Rail, but the prices hurt. And as someone else said above, the €10 specials just don’t exist! Limerick to Dublin is usually €30 each way, whereas the bus day return is €21… I go on the bus, but I hate the bus!

This isn’t new – it’s been there since the website was relaunched a few months back.

Slow trains are the problem. Steam trains in the UK in 1922 ran at a speed of 80 MPH -some even faste like the London Edinborough route. Irish rail mainline trains run at 42.3 MPH nearly 3 hours to Galway and Sligo. The CEO of Irish rail gets paid more than Obama and a bonus at Xmas for trains that run slower now than 70 years ago. He should be fired for inefficiency and poor performance. All the IT stuff is great but if we ranked 1st in Europe instead of the 24th slowest I would be happier. It is questionable how come the new trains were purchased as they were dearer and slower than all the competitors. Remember the Luas procurement when the Japaneese supplier was 50% of the cost and more efficient yet we paid double. WHY?? Brown envelopes is the only answer.

If you live in North West Ireland theres no much chance of you using this system ever as there no rail lines at all in Donegal,Cavan,Monaghan ,Fermanagh or Tyrone

needed more for Dublin Bus than Irish Rail

That has been available for months, since they tarted up their website. It does not work well at all on mobile devices and only really works where there is high speed broadband and a fairly fast pc.

A train is hardly going to be stuck in traffic on the quays

Doesn’t seem up be working from my end.. My train not appearing and other trains on other line passed but still showing up at a few stations before my one

I guess if it’s as good as the reserve seating they implemented it will be a complete mess. Maybe they should have launched a smart phone app along with the web site.

Sounds expensive to set up and maintain that system. Must be why the price of a return ticket from cork to Dublin is gone up to €84.

I would like to add that the train service has improved dramatically in the last ten years and to let you know there is not one existent interactive news service in the U.S. ,where else can ye ask where yer comment has blown and get a result. Very impressed….

Hopefully the train will stop in Navan soon!
