  • Politician st paddys surprise…….the surprise is that every year without fail here’s what happens ….a few observations ….

, 1. Politicians always get to spend time on st paddys trips in different overseas places

    2. The media always write the same stories with the following slant , “this time it’s different we are actually using the opportunity to sell ireland so don’t be complaining.”… ,

This usually divides the pub chat into two sections the ” at least its not just a political junket they are are actually SELLING ireland brigade versus the ” its just the usual st paddys junket brigade….

This year papparazzi are hoping for a winfall by getting a shot of a Phil Hogan with a drink in his hand at some knees up or James Reilly dribbling Guinness on his beard….. If so there will be a bit of flak and by this time next year refer to number one

  • Why are we looking to America, as someone already mentioned why are we not looking after our own domestic economy also. Article earlier saying more retail job will go because of property tax( smart move by FFG) look at the statistics in America they have trillions of $ of debt and their economy is sinking.
This is all working to plan. America is gone, Europe is more than likely going to become just as unsustainable as America. Australia are heading into a bit of a recession. Thankfully they have great politicians like Ann Blessington, (great 10 min video on YouTube) the Middle East well they trying to conquer that. There is a plan there always has been a plan, we were just too stupid to see it.

But look he not costing too much and he thinks he might be able to do something, I’m just surprised his economists and advisor haven’t said to him about the state of the economy there.

    • Adele, what are you talking about?
600 American firms in Ireland employing 100,000 people.
If you want more info, just google American investment in Ireland and look at the figures yourself!

    • I am not saying they don’t buy I just think if people were to look at the America economy they have hundreds of their own unemployed. The economy there is in a lot worse shape than ours. Then again maybe they are looking at it as in we have low corporation tax you can pay of you want if you don’t we don’t care so maybe that will draw them in. I’m just saying that if we built up out own domestic economy it would be a more stable solution and beneficial, multinationals are unreliable and can up and leave when ever thy feel like it.

    • Adele, seriously! “hundreds of their own unemployed”.
Do you really know what your talking about?
Is the American economy in trouble? Yes there are problems and there is high unemployment.
Now please go and do some research on American investment in Ireland and also on the American economy.

    • I know enough thanks. America economy is trillions in debt, yes, America is investing too much in wars an not enough in their own economy. Unemployment is VERY high, I have enough family there who are involved enough to know that what is coming for America is frightening. They are getting themselves into more and more debt funding wars. How do you think their economy is doing?

I said yes their is investment from America companies here but I think they are not reliable in the long term and improving our own domestic economy seems like the better option for me.

America is heading down a bad road and their economy is in desperate conditions.

  • Ah thats alright so…gilmore goes on an all expenses paid trip and that is on top of his normal wage.
He hoes along to speak for a few moments and then gets wined and dined… Brings a whole new meaning to “all expenses paid”
But sure he has his supporters here that think the liar can’t do wrong and it seems they enjoy spending the night eating dictionarys so they can come on here and excrete their results to amaze their friend.

  • Has anyone ever studied how much investment and jobs these junkets actually pull in?

  • Wasting taxpayers money and time. U.S. companies not in a position to invest anywhere. This is an excuse for a junket. Investment will come from local economy if they would stop strangling it.

  • Why don’t they spend the taxpayers money on struggling Irish business enterprises who are already established here. Suppose its because there would be no junkets and photo ops.

  • Eamon Gilmore will never live up to the expectations of the intelligentsia who regularly post comments here on complex social theories in carefully crafted esoteric language.
