Man arrested after starting a fire in a school and smashing windows at a garda station

The man was arrested at the school in Edenderry in the early hours of the morning.

GARDAÍ IN OFFALY have arrested a 20-year-old man after a string of criminal damage incidents in Edenderry in the early hours this morning.

A number of windows were damaged at Edenderry Garda Station, and further damage was done at a filling station on Tullamore Road in the town.

The suspect then proceeded to a local community school where further damage was caused.

He managed to gain entry to the school, and started a small fire inside. Gardaí then arrested him at the scene.

He is currently being detained at Tullamore Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, or anyone who may have been in the area overnight, to contact Edenderry Garda Station on 046 973 1290.
