EIGHT OUT OF ten Irish people think lower paid gardaí, teachers and nurses should have their pay increased.
It comes as up to 500 schools are set to close on Thursday unless progress is made on the issue of pay scales for teachers who qualified after 2011.
Further talks are scheduled for tomorrow but the ASTI said here’s still a way to go before agreement is reached.
When asked if lower paid (new entrant) gardaí, teachers and nurses should have their pay increased, the results were:
- Yes 83%
- No 11%
- Don’t know 6%
Gardaí are set to withdraw their labour on 4, 11, 18 and 25 November, while the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) announced it would hold a nationwide ballot seeking a mandate to commence industrial action earlier this month.
