Eircom error will leave 30,000 paying big bills

Eircom says it failed to process direct debits.

TELECOMS COMPANY EIRCOM has confirmed that it failed to process direct debits for up to 30,000 customers, leaving some customers facing a €500 arrears payment.

And, despite the company admitting their mistake, customers will be asked to pay the money in one go.

The company says that they sent bills to affected customers that stated the bills had been paid by direct debit.

However their systems had failed to collect payment for 30,000 phone, broadband and TV customers since January.

Those who have been affected will receive a letter about the mix-up, which Eircom says was caused by the implementation of the Single European Payments Area (SEPA).

The company has established a dedicated phone line to answer queries.

Customers can call 1800 303 432 from Monday to Friday, 9am-8pm.

The company apologised for the error.

“We sincerely apologise for this error and can assure customers that this error has now been rectified.”
