A MAN IN his early 80s has been taken to Cork University Hospital with serious injuries after being knocked down by a bus this afternoon.
The pensioner was crossing the public road near the Parnell Place bus station at about 1.45pm when he was struck by a Bus Eireann vehicle.
He was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where he is being treated for injuries which have been described as serious.
Gardaí at Anglesea in Cork city are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and have appealed for witnesses to contact them on 021 452 2000.
A spokesperson for Bus Eireann confirmed the incident occurred as a bus was turning onto Parnell Place from Anderson Quay. As it was not yet in service, there were no passengers on board.
It was about to start the 1.50pm service to Ballinacurra.
The company is assisting the Gardaí with its inquiries. It will also provide any help to the driver of the vehicle that he may require.
