Labour Party leader Eamon Gilmore is seeking a sixth term as TD for Dun Laoighaire. Gilmore, who was born in Galway, was first elected by the constituency as a Workers' Party TD in 1989. Gilmore has been active in politics since his college days. In 1976, he was elected as President of the Union of Students of Ireland (USI) at the age of twenty. A poll carried out by Red C on behalf of PaddyPower in December 2010 showed Gilmore to be the preffered option for Taoiseach out of the current political leaders.
