Fine Gael's Noel Coonan is set to defend the Dáil seat which he first won in the 2007 general election. Coonan's involvement in local politics stretches back to 1991 when he was first elected to Tipperary North County Council. Following his disappointment at not winning a Dail seat in 2002, Coonan secured election to the Seanad (Cultural and Educational Panel) two months later. He was appointed as the party's Deputy Spokesperson for Agriculture in 2010.
